4 ways by which PIN codes in India are determined!

The PIN code is commonly known as postal code or area code. It stands for Postal Index Number.
It is a 6 digit number where every digit of the number indicates a particular area.

Look below on an example, how it can be determined by 6 ways:

PIN code: 110075

1) The 1st digit of the code represents the region: North, South, East & West.

- North: 1,2
-West: 3,4
-South: 5,6
-East: 7,8
-Army: 9

2) The second digit from the left indicates the stat sub region

Below is a listing of the PIN codes of Indian States as designed on 15th Aug'1972.



3) The third digit represents the sorting district of that particular state. In the above example it comes to be Delhi.

4)And finally, the last three digits represents the individual post office assigned to a particular egion in a state.
